Cameroon and Canada discuss cooperation possibilities

René Cremonese Canadian High Commissioner mentioned possibilities of economic partnership between his country and Cameroon during a visit to Alamine Ousmane Mey last Thursday March 5, 2015.

At the end of the hearing with the Minister of Finance (Minfi), Alamine Ousmane Mey last Thursday, the new High Commissioner of Canada to Cameroon, René Cremonese said he came to discuss the possibilities of cooperation in the economic field between Canada and Cameroon.

With regard to the details of this collaboration, the construction of a terminal at Kribi industrial and port complex were in the spotlight. The realization of this project will be conducted by a Canadian company specialized in the oil field.

The High Commissioner also referred to these Canadian financing companies which should in the medium or short term work on several projects with Cameroon.

For René Cremonese, the prospects are good though he recalled that relations between the two countries had previously rather focused on development assistance.

The Canadian diplomat said that the situation will change. "What we are trying to do now, is to build a solid economic partnership", he said. He took for example, the recent visit of a large delegation of Cameroonian businessmen in Toronto and Montreal

"There's no reason to worry since there are problems and challenges in any country in the world. What we are trying to do is to work together with our companies".

He said that it was in this light that Canada came to sign and ratify an agreement on investment protection. "We expect the ratification of Cameroon which will take place at the next meeting of the National Assembly and the Senate this month of March," the Ambassador added.
