Cameroon ranked as corrupt as Nigeria in 2014

Cameroon is ranked 136th out of 175 countries in Transparency International’s 2014 Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI), a ranking of public sector corruption, made available on Wednesday.

With a CPI score of 27, Cameroon had 25 last year and 26 the year before. In spite of the apparent progress, Cameroon remained in the red zone.

Other countries sharing the same rank (136) are Iran, Kyrgyzstan, Lebanon, Nigeria and Russia.

Worst performing countries are Korea (North) and Somalia. Somalia now ranks where Cameroon was in 1998 and 1999 as the world’s most corrupt country with North Korea.

Denmark is the least corrupt place on earth according to Transparency International’s annual Corruption Perception Index (CPI) for 2014.

The Corruption Perceptions Index ranks countries and territories based on how corrupt their public sector is perceived to be.

A country or territory’s score indicates the perceived level of public sector corruption on a scale of 0 (highly corrupt) to 100 (very clean). A country or territory’s rank indicates its position relative to the other countries and territories in the index.

This year’s index includes 175 countries and territories.
