Cameroon is one among many Central African states that is experiencing an upsurge in cyber-crime.
This unscrupulous new- generational crime is often carried out by either individuals or small groups who tend to devise new strategies in committing old crimes.
These cyber criminals who generally use fake identities resort to scamming; a phenomenon common in towns like Bamenda, Buea, Douala and Yaounde where non-existing pets like cats and dogs are sold online to short-sighted customers in Europe and America.
Cyber criminals do not only swindle people but steal their personal information, identities and hack into their accounts.
Most at times, the computers they use to carry out their deceitful acts are usually controlled by someone faraway.
It is for this reason that a forum to combat cyber criminality and terrorism in the Central Arican sub-Region has been organised in Yaounde by cyber security experts.
The four day conference which begins this Tuesday 24th February 2015 will fine-tune measures of protecting critical information and infrastructure.
The conference has been organised by the International telecommunication Union ITU, the Aeromaritime Transport Union In collaboration with the International Organization of Criminal Police (Interpol), and the Economic Community for Central African States, ECCAS.
