Clashes between Cameroonian troops and Boko Haram fighters in the town of Ngouraya (Far North) on Friday have left a dozen militants dead, security sources claimed. The clashes ensued after national defense forces received reports from residents of the town, exposing the presence of the extremists who were about to torch a nearby village.
Despite this fresh incursion by the Islamists, relative calm has returned to the latest flashpoint, as the African Union-backed multinational force inflicted heavy losses on Boko Haram fighters.
According to official figures, attacks by the Nigeria-based sect in Cameroon have already claimed the lives of over 1,200 people and caused widespread displacement.
