Camrail files complaint against truck driver responsible for Douala-Nyalla accident

"CAMRAIL brought to the knowledge of the public, that a collision between the train 184 destined for the train station at Bessengue, and an empty tanker truck registered LT845AV and a motorcycle, which occurred at the crossing of Nyalla at PK 12, on Thursday, September 11, 2014 in Douala, around 7:00pm."

In spite of the signs announcing the level crossing and light and sound signals of the locomotive, the tanker truck and motorcycle found themselves on the track, at the time of the passage of the train. Mr. Raptiste Abessolo Patrice, the driver of the motorcycle died at the spot and apart from that no injuries has however been recorded.

Informed, the Directorate General of CAMRAIL and the administrative authorities of Douala alighted on the ground and supervised the operations for the restoration road and rail traffic.

In addition, CAMRAIL reminds all users of the road on the respect of the signs and signals as a preventive measure prescribed by articles 29 and 30 of the road Code and by Decree No.73/113 the March 22, 1973 on the regulation of level crossings.

CAMRAIL has already filed a complaint against the driver of the tanker truck, for the violation of the above provisions. The construction of pedestrian gateways (Mvolye, Yaounde, Bassa and soon Ngaoundere), the maintenance of systems of railway signalling, the fight against the clandestine level crossings, are part of the measures taken by CAMRAIL to secure the junction points between the railway tracks and road.

Also, CAMRAIL had with the assistance of the Ngo Securoute carried out an awareness campaign on the crossing of the level crossings June 03, 2014. CAMRAIL specified that it has engaged with the assistance of the State of Cameroon, a campaign of automation of 05 level crossings in the cities of Douala and Yaounde.

CAMRAIL reaffirms the constancy of the measures it has implemented to ensure the safety of train operations, and invites the users of level crossings, to strictly observe the rules of the highway code.
