China Offers Computers to ELECAM

Ambassador Wo Ruidi handed the eight laptops yesterday, October 28, 2013.

The government of the People's Republic of China has offered eight computer laptops to boost the functioning and efficiency of Cameroon's elections and referenda governing institution, Elections Cameroon, ELECAM. The Ambassador of China to Cameroon, Wo Ruidi handed the computers to the Chairman of the Electoral Board of ELECAM, Dr Fonkam Azu'u Samuel during discussions at the Bastos, Yaounde headquarters of the institution, yesterday, October 28, 2013.

Speaking after discussions with Dr Fonkam Azu'u, the Chinese diplomat said he came to hand the computers. He also disclosed that he used the visit to congratulate ELECAM on the good organization of the September 30, 2013 twin legislative and municipal elections. Wo Ruidi's visit to ELECAM headquarters yesterday was the second, he disclosed. He said during the first visit, the Chairman of the Electoral Board of ELECAM briefed him on the missions of the institution and its functioning. Concerning the future, the Chinese diplomat said his country and ELECAM will continue to share and exchange information to ensure more efficiency and effectiveness in the organization of future elections in the country.

The offer of the computers is timely considering the determination of ELECAM to improve on the material organization of future elections, following the statement of its board chairman during the third ordinary board meeting of October 25, 2013. The equipment will certainly boost the implementation of the 2014 action programmes of the institution adopted during the board meeting.
