The Sappa Road vicinity in down town Limbe recently was jammed to capacity as hundreds of die hard supporters and fans of Cameroon football icon Njie Clinton turned out to witness the launching of the Njie Clinton Fan Club.
The ceremony that witnessed performances from a cross section of artists and humorists from Douala, Limbe and beyond was at the instance of Limbe based business magnate, Maxim Bambot, also known as Maxim De Paris.
Addressing the hundreds of anxious fans that evening, Bambot pointed out that there is every reason for the population of Limbe in particular and Cameroon in general to rally behind the young budding and promising star, Njie Clinton to support him to succeed in his football career, especially in the English premiership side, Tottenham Hotspur where he now plies his trade.
Bambot maintained that it is not an easy thing for Njie Clinton to distinguish himself as from amongst 20 million Cameroonians. He thus enjoined all to continue to register as fans of Njie Clinton in a register that has now been opened for the purpose.
Taking the cue the elder brother of Njie Clinton, Thomas Ndive who led the family delegation to the event said that he and other family members were overwhelmed by the support that their brother was receiving from his peers back home. Ndive held that if Njie Clinton is succeeding in football today, it is not a miracle, but thanks to the support of his brothers back home.
Thomas Ndive moved the anxious fans when he announced that a few moments before he arrived at the ceremonial ground he was in a telephone conversation with Njie Clinton during which the budding football star asked him to extend his fraternal and warm greetings to all his fans at the ceremony.
He said Njie Clinton had asked him to tell his fans that any time he steps his feet on Cameroonian soil, he will make sure that he stops by his fan club at Sappa Road to celebrate with his fans. Thomas Ndive was accompanied to the event by Njie Clinton’s elder sister and husband, Mr/Mrs Wilson and Frida Azinyui.
Meanwhile, one of the high points of the ceremony was the launching of an entertainment and leisure spot known as Face To Face, with Njie Clinton’s effigies and paintings everywhere. Furthermore, the club which is now the official fan club of Njie Clinton now has a register open 24 hours a day for anybody who wishes to be his fan to pass by and register.
Bambot aka Maxim’s De Paris said the support for Njie Clinton is not just going to be a one day thing but something that will happen everyday with screening of all his matches as well as provision of all information related to the career of the budding star.
The ceremony which lasted late into the night was graced by heavy eating and drinking as well as dancing and other forms of merrymaking.
