Committee for development and security met in Yaounde

The Committee in charge of the development and security in these regions met in Yaoundé.

The eighth session of the Steering Committee of the project for the development of the Highlands of Cameroon by imaging satellite (PDDHTIS) was held on 18 and 19 November in Yaoundé. The meeting of the leadership of the PDDHTIS focused on the assessment of the implementation of the project and its immediate prospects.

It was specifically noted that, despite the time which separated the last Committee session in 2012 which just ended, the memorandum of understanding in gestation with the technical partner is well organised.

This PDDHTIS is the Government's response to the natural disaster risks similar to those experienced by Cameroon in June and July 2003.

During this time, major seismic movements at the origin of landslides occurred in the western part of Cameroon, along the mountain chain that runs through. Particularly marked, the boroughs of Wabane and Alou in the southwest where many losses in human lives and property had been identified.

There is the need to find a way to put at the disposal of the State at any time, information on the physical behavior at any point of the territory, as well in the basement on the ground, in the air and on the water.

This must be done in such a way that the public authorities may, where appropriate, deal with critical situations. Beyond, such collection is also used to better understand and exploit the wealth whether in mines or at sea.
