Construction of Yaoundé – Douala double lane road starts off

The Chinese company in charge of the construction of the Yaoundé – Douala double lane road started construction works on the first phase of the project on 10th October 2014.

The first phase that comprises some 70 kilometers from the Nkolbisson entrance of Yaoundé will be completed within 48 months.

The stretch will comprise three crossovers at intervals ranging from 20 to 30 kilometers apart.

The entire 180 km double lane carriage way that will run from Nkolbisson in Yaoundé to Bassa in Douala will be constructed with provisions for a third lane on either sides.

So far, grading and compacting of the soil on the outskirts of Yaounde is progressing despite the humid weather condition.

At the quarry, machines and workers are grinding rocks to gravel that will be used for the giant project.

Public Works official indicate that indemnities have already been paid to persons displaced as a result of the road project between kilometers three and ten. Meanwhile negotiations are on to compensate those from kilometer zero to three.
