Countries of Lake Chad to pool efforts against Boko Haram

The heads of State for the Member countries of the Lake Chad basin (Cameroon, Niger, Chad, Nigeria) as well as Benin, will meet October 7 in Niamey to pool their efforts to combat the serious threat posed by the terrorist group Boko Haram.

Making this announcement Friday to the General Assembly of the United Nations, the Nigerien president Mahamadou Issoufou said that terrorist group Boko haram, which has been raging for more than two years in Northern Nigeria, "demonstrated an absurdity and barbarity never before observed".

"With his recent forays in Cameroon and occupation of more important territories, the evidence is clearly made that this terrorist group fed broader designs than previously thought", he stressed.

According to the Nigerien state, "more efforts and cooperation are needed both at the regional and international level in order to cope effectively".
