Crackdown on fraudulent weighing instruments launched

The Ministry of Trade has embarked on a nationwide campaign against the use of fraudulent weights and measures.

The campaign was launched during a workshop to train inspectors and controllers on the functioning of the different types of scales and weights authorised in Cameroonian markets.

The campaign is a result of recurrent complains from clients that measuring sales are not respected by some ill-fated business persons.

The campaign will get into full forces in other parts of the country on the 1st of October 2014 and end on the 21st of August 2015.

The campaign targets four sectors which include Agriculture, Transport, Petroleum and livestock.

The control teams will carry out periodic and systematic checks in markets nationwide to ensure that only prescribed weighing instruments are used in the respective sectors and weighing machines that do not respect the norms will be seized.

Provision and cold stores, beef and fish vendors and petrol stations will be the prime target of the year long operation which seeks to restore order in the country’s markets.
