Border attacks require a change of plan, according to the DG who spoke Monday in Yaounde, during the celebration of the international day dedicated to the corps.
Cameroon Customs accustomed the country in recent years to revenue of more than 100% of the expected results. And despite the economic situation, including the alert to the threat of Ebola and the terrorist attacks having imposed sometimes closure of land borders (Extreme North), maritime (southwest) and air, the customs administration remained true to its performance.
So at the end of 2014, Minette Libom Li Likeng, Director-general of customs provides that 'on a forecast of 638 billion, customs achieved 700.8 billion, or a performance of 110%. A result which can only continue if we are operating in an environment of peace," said the DG.
She continued, regretting that "the terrorist threat is more present and in this context, the Customs has an obligation to provide technical and logistical support to the defence forces, more emphasis on its security missions, little known to the general public".
Minette Libom Li Likeng was speaking yesterday in Yaoundé, during the celebration of the international day of customs, on the theme: "coordinated border management: a participatory approach for all concerned.
"Tax mission is the most prominent, but the current situation obliges us to put emphasis on protection, monitoring of the territory and security missions at the borders," explains the DG. Nevertheless, the Minister of finance, supervision of the customs administration is optimistic.
"Certainly, it is necessary to give priority to security missions, but I am convinced that despite everything, your forecasts will be carried out," said Alamine Ousmane Mey, in congratulating the DG for reforms and the usual performance of customs.
