Defense militant for the rights of AIDS patients is dead

Cameroonian defense militant for the rights of AIDS patients, Huguette Atchomou, 37 years, contaminated after being married to an infected man whose status had been hidden to him, died Monday in Yaounde after a long suffering related to the lack of care due to an erroneous diagnosis on her resistance to the treatment.

The young woman, is a mother of two healthy children, including one 9 year old little boy and a small girl of almost 5 years born of a union with their unhealthy father. She died following a sudden health degradation, two months after the recent hospitalization in July.

"She had not had any treatment for two months. The treatment which she took was not appropriate ARV (antiretroviral) belonging to the second line. It was to be in third line ", entrusted a member of her entourage

Huguette Atchomou, detected seropositive with the VIH in 1996, had been declared by clinical examinations in Yaounde resistant to this treatment, before discovering that she was the subject of an erroneous diagnosis by other examinations carried out in South Africa in 2012.

By the means of her association, member of the cameroonian Network associations of the people living with HIV/AIDS), she undertook activities of sensitizing on this pandemia in school establishments and churches.
