"Device at Douala airport against Ebola not reassuring"

The national order of doctors of Cameroon dispels the concerns of those who think that this place is ill-equipped...

More than a week after the commissioning of thermal cameras and thermoscopes laser at the Douala international airport, a part of the opinion still has doubts on the reliability of the devices in the fight against the Ebola virus in this Chamber.

"All this is insufficient," Those who doubt highlighted the lack of trained personnel for suspicious travelers and the absence of an isolation room where any found case could be kept before the transfer to the centre of support furnished at the Douala Laquintinie hospital, only Center City equipped with this service at the present time.

According to Dr. Rodolphe Fonkoua, representative of the national order of doctors of Cameroon in the Littoral region; "The airport is not diagnostic. The only element of assessment of the State of health of a passenger is the temperature. If there is a suspicion, we alert the body's support.

The nurse can block this person and move up the chain of contamination," he said. For him, installing a Center at the airport can have dramatic consequences. "It is not prudent to make the heavier device. This can create panic. Images of people wearing gloves, suits and other specialized outfits is not something good", believed the doctor.

The Governor of the Littoral region, Joseph Beti Assomo visited Monday the anti-Ebola facilities. He saw the camera, placed at a point of convergence in two terminals. On this occasion, we have learnt that 3150 feverish passengers had already been detected, but that some of them, followed by close way, had finally not presented symptoms of Ebola fever.
