The third session of the Inter-ministerial Adhoc committee in charge of managing donations to support Defence Forces and affected populations held on July 7, 2015 in Yaounde.
The distribution of donations in-kind from the population to support Defence Forces and affected populations within the framework of the fight against the terrorist group, Boko Haram, has so far been satisfactory.
The East, Adamawa, North and Far North Regions have received donations in-kind through the second convoy of 14 foodstuff-loaded trucks that left the Yaounde Airforce Base on July 4, 2015.
The third session of the Inter-ministerial Adhoc Committee in charge of managing donations to Defence Forces and affected populations held on July 7, 2015 in Yaounde to assess collection and distribution operations undertaken. Speaking to the press after the meeting, the Chairman of the Committee and Minister of Territorial Administration and Decentralisation, René Emmanuel Sadi, expressed satisfaction not only with the security measures taken to ferry the donations but also with the distribution to the beneficiaries despite some logistics challenges.
Members of the committee also discussed the distribution of cash donations while waiting for the ongoing harmonisation of figures to hatch, by next week, the exact amount collected in the special Treasury account. On May 26, 2015, it was announced that the sum of FCFA 2.1 billion had been mobilised from popular support.
Meanwhile, regional committees involving administrative authorities and even parliamentarians have been set up so that the distribution should be done equitably, René Sadi assured, adding that more donations keep flowing in especially from the Diaspora.
Also participating in the in-camera session were the Minister Delegate at the Presidency in charge of Defence, Edgard Alain Mebe Ngo’o; the Minister of Finance, Alamine Ousmane Mey; the Minister of External Relations, Pierre Moukoko Mbonjo; the Secretary of State of Defence in charge of the National Gendarmerie, Jean Baptiste Bokam and the Governor of the Far North Region, Midjiyawa Bakari, amongst others.
