Christmas came early for 2,700 children from underprivileged homes in the Douala II Council area when they received plastic cutleries and various toys on December 19, 2013.
Organised by the Douala II Council, the event brought children from 29 public and mission nursery and primary schools. Since the onset of the Christmas Tree ceremony in 2008, 13,855 children aged between 3 and 5 years have been reached with gifts.
The ceremony was presided over by the Divisional Officer of the Douala II, Garga Bakari. While handing over the gifts, Mayor Denise Fampou said the ceremony was organised so that the children could have a little bit of fun and with gifts that they would not otherwise had from their parents.
