Douala prepares to accommodate AFCON 2019

Many projects are in progress in the economic capital to accommodate the AFCON in 2019.

With the plan of the sporting infrastructures, Douala will lay out in the next years a modern stadium of approximately 50 000 to 60.000 places in Bwang-Bakoko, at the East entry to the city, according to the urban Community of Douala (Cud

This will be added to the Reunification stadium of Bepanda, the Mbappé Lépé stadium, the sporting Complexes of Ksa and of Sabc in particular, several other training staduiums at the University.

On the hotel level, the city lays out according to the municipality 4 hotels of 4 stars (and 2 in construction), 14 hotels 3 stars, 50 hotels 2 stars, etc "In 2019, 4 new hotels from 4 to 5 stars at least, will significantly come to increase this hotel offer", entrusts Fritz Ntonè Ntonè, deputy government at Cud.

In the field of the infrastructures, the city has a road network bituminized at almost 500 km which will extend, at the time of the competitions to nearly 700 km "Within this framework, omeasurements are taken so that by 2016, that is to say 3 years before the AFCON, the perceptible congestions in certain sectors of the city are curbed out.

In addition, the building work, in progress, at the second bridge on the Wouri river will be completed, thus making it possible to rejoin right bank more easily tothe aforesaid river and, consequently, to reach easily the remarkable sporting installations of Kadji Sports Academy (Ksa).

Works are underway for the installation of the Entries East and West of the city, which when completed, will allow also a better terrestrial access in the City ", added Fritz Ntonè Ntonè. The offer of public transport in particular, as well as the plan of urban mobility of the city will have to be however brought to the level of the event to come.

In the field of air transports, Douala already has an airport of international class in the course of modernization, and which allows direct or indirect air links with the rest of the world. On its side, the medical centre is organized around five districts of health services of Samu. The reference hospitals (Laquintinie hospital, general Hospital, military hospital) and the hospital Gynéco-obstetrics which will soon be operational in Yassa, supplement this technical plate.
