EISERVI donates 62,000 books to schools, councils

EISERVI handed over the brand new books on February 6, 2015, at a ceremony in Yaounde.

As part of activities to mark the 2015 National Bilingualism and Youth Weeks, Education Information Services International, EISERVI, a local charity, has donated 62,000 books to 70 nursery and primary schools and 44 councils in all 10 regions of the country.

Speaking at the event, EISERVI Executive Director, Andrew Nyenty, explained that the brand new books, which were donated by Oxford University Press through Book Aid International, cover from pre-school to adolescent academic and social development studies in areas such as mathematics, science, sports, culinary, text books, etc.

Each beneficiary school got over 600 books for children, aimed at encouraging the development of school libraries and the institution of library hours on school time tables as a means to promoting reading among children.

The donation, which fell under EISERVI’s Cameroon Library Development Initiative, has since 2005 seen the development of libraries in over 44 municipalities in the country and the Universities of Buea, Dschang, Ngaoundere, Douala, Yaounde I Council, Bamenda and Maroua.

Similarly, over 500 schools, Non-governmental Organisations, orphanages, and prisons in the country have also benefitted from EISERVI’s book donations.

After the Limbe City Council Library in 2014, the charity this year plans to create four more Children’s Corners in libraries in Bamenda, Kumbo, Kumba and Mamfe.

Also present at last Friday’s ceremony were the Member of Parliament for Yaounde VI Constituency, Hon. Pangmashi Roland Fue and representatives of the Centre Regional Delegations of Basic Education, and Youth Affairs and Civic Education.
