The fourth ordinary session of the Electoral Board of Elections Cameroon was held in Yaounde on Thursday. The Board Members of Elections Cameroon, ELECAM, have examined and adopted the budget for 2015.
They met in Yaounde yesterday, October 23, 2014, in their fourth ordinary session to discuss business of the house and chart a way forward. Top on the agenda was the activity report presented by the Director General of Elections and the allocation of a special appropriation bill for the board.
The Director General of Elections as well as the Chairman of ELECAM, gave clarifications on their 2015 road maps. The President of the Electoral Board of ELECAM, Samuel Fonkam Azu’u, prior to the start of the in-camera session, stressed that the special appropriation fund was part of ELECAM’s budget set aside for specific activities.
He explained that the special allocation was meant for the remuneration of the Chairman and his Vice, alongside the payment of allowances due to members of the Electoral Board inter alia. He dismissed rumours of any by-elections in 2015, insisting that it was not within the competence of ELECAM.
In a press statement, Samuel Fonkam Azu’u reiterated that the internal crisis in ELECAM with regards to the appointment of delegates by the Electoral Board, was still persisting, “given that the Director General of Elections has still not commissioned the Regional Delegates appointed by an unanimous decision of the Electoral Board, in its Resolution N° 0159/ELECAM/CE of 9th July, 2014.
“However, the situation is currently undergoing an internal examination,” he concluded.
