The third ordinary session of the Electoral Board for 2016 took place in Yaounde on July 16, 2016.
The President of the Electoral Board of Elections Cameroon (ELECAM), Samuel Fonkam Azu’u, has called on Electoral Board members and the Directorate General to spare no effort in changing the negative perception Cameroonians still have of electoral issues. He made the exhortation in Yaounde on July 16, 2016, during the third ordinary session of the Electoral Board.
Saturday’s Board meeting, that examined and adopted the administrative and management accounts of Elections Cameroon earlier rejected during the April session, also witnessed the participation for their first time of Messrs Enow Abrams Egbe and Haman Dairou, recently appointed by the Head of State.
Dr Fonkam Azu’u reminded the two new members of their oath of impartiality and the respect of the Constitution and laws amongst others, in the discharge of their functions.
He said the importance of the organ they are called upon to serve does not warrant any compromise. Thus, he advocated serenity so that they can achieve their goal and win the confidence of the people, stating that peace and stability of every country depends on institutions like ELECAM.
Other issues such as the activities of the Board, the state of construction work on the headquarters and material depot of Elections Cameroon as well as update on the preparations for the 7th consultation forum also featured on the agenda of the third ordinary session of the Electoral Board.
It should be noted that ELECAM has so far registered some 176,713 new voters (as at July 17, 2016) since January 2016. The figure, which is double as compared to same time last year, puts the total figure on the electoral list at over 6 million voters.
