Activities to mark the 31st edition of the International Women’s Day have been launched with an urge on men to accompany the women as partners in development.
The Day was launched at the Bertoua ceremonial ground under the theme: “Pledge for parity.”
During the launching ceremony the Minister of Women’s Empowerment and Family made a clarion call on men to help women over come all social and financial obstacles, and to jointly participate towards the development of the society.
On the other hand, she admonished women to act as partners in development not bosses emphasizing that Gender equality is not gender domination.
The Mayor of Bertoua one present during the occasion acknowledged the choice of the East Region to host the conference given that women of the East Region according to officials are still victims of male chauvinism.
The Minister also handed over gifts to women groups of the Region.
The ceremony brought women from all walks of life including the Japanese Ambassador to Cameroon.
