Eneo resolves to ration electricity after depot fire accident

The electricity provider in Cameroon, Eneo has announced an ongoing rationing of electricity in areas affected by the Etoudi – Abbatoir fire incidence of Saturday 22nd November, 2014.

This decision was stated in a communiqué issued to the press on Monday 25th November 2014.

The communiqué indicated that due to mechanic constraints and delays in repairing the damaged connections, the immediate solution is to ration electricity in some neighbourhoods in order to ensure fairness.

This, Eneo officials, say will aid in giving affected neighbourhoods access to basic electricity needs.

In this light the said neighbourhoods have since 24th November, been served with approximately three to six hours of electricity a day.

The fire which broke out on 22nd November 2014, due to the explosion of a gas depot, affected the conductors of the high tension cable which transports energy to the transformers in Ngousso and Kondengui and also few low or moderate tension cables.

Visible work has already started on the Ngousso-Kondengui high tension extension which spans over several kilometres and provides electricity to a large portion of the town.

Technicians at Eneo say repairs on the few damaged low and moderate tension lines will follow suit.

In spite of the major setbacks faced so far, Eneo assures that there has been adequate technical reinforcement from Edea and the situation will be brought to normal in the days ahead.
