Eneo to connect 109 villages to electricity

Eneo Cameroon, the concessionaire of the public service of electricity in the country, signed on November 5, 2014 with the Intercommunity Association of the Highlands, consolidation of the municipal authorities of four municipalities in the region of West of Cameroon, a partnership aimed at connecting to the national grid, approximately 4,000 households in 109 villages.

The partnership convention signed by Joël Nana Kontchou, DG of Eneo Cameroon, and Isidore Téguia Kamdem, Mayor of the commune of Baham and president of the Intercommunity Association of the Highlands, will allow, Baham "to accelerate the implementation of component rural electrification of the project of development of rural electrification in the departement of the Hauts-plateaux which puts in synergy, the State of Cameroon, the European Union, the Commune of Saint-Germain - au-Mont-d'Or and communities represented by their mayors.

Implemented since August 2011, project DER Highlands is co-financed at 1.5 billion Cfa francs by the European Union.

The rest of the financing is mobilized by the four communes of the Department of the Highlands, or 18.2 per cent of the necessary funding, compared to 5.9% for the beneficiaries of the connection to the electric network, 1.8% for the common French partner in the project.
