Fake Kumba army officer to face the law

Elements of the Special Police Intervention Union in Kumba have arrested a fake Army Officer, who claimed to belong to the high rank of the Cameroon Defense force.

Valentine Asanga, aged 24, was arrested recently around the Buea road roundabout at about 11 pm. The impostor is said to have been using the uniform to intimidate civilians during the festive period.

According to security officials, the said impostor was identified around the junction smoking cigarettes putting on an army uniform. He is said to have offered them military-like greetings, which he fumbled, creating suspicion amongst the Police who immediately interrogated him.

Short of words, the impostor could not defend himself and was arrested and detained at the Kumba Central Police Station.

At the Police Station, the impostor told Eden that the said complete set of army uniform was offered to him as a gift by his friend who is currently a soldier in Buea. He said the uniform was meant to be used in farming. To him, it was the work of the devil that caused him to put on the uniform and move around town. He attested that he had never carried out any macabre act with the uniform and pleaded for mercy.

According to the Commissioner of Kumba Central Police station, Wilson Njumenjikang Elong, the case of the culprit was one among many. He said several impostors have been arrested sometime with weapons which they used to intimidate people and carry out robbery.

He said that the culprits will be handed over to the Meme State Counsel where the law will take its full course.
