Public Health Minister, Andre Mama Fouda has organized a press conference to launch activities in prelude to the Family Planning Week in Cameroon.
During the conference on 25th February 2015, the Minister discussed the great strides made by Government in the area of family planning.
He precised that Government has elaborated a new five-year strategic plan on family planning aimed at reducing maternal mortality, unwanted pregnancies and abortion.
Accordingly, the prices of contraceptives have witnessed a net drop in order to encourage Cameroonians to resort to these and other methods of birth control.
Discussions during the Family Planning Week will centre on birth control, contraception and birth-spacing with the aim of doubling the rate of the use of contraceptives in Cameroon from 16.1 to 30 per cent by 2020.
The Minister of Communication, Issa Tchiroma Bakary and the Minister of Women Empowerment and the Family, Marie Therese Abena Ondoa, were present during the press conference.
This year’s Family Planning Week shall be celebrated under the theme, “Your future, your choice, your contraception.”
