Fighting Boko Haram: Fons and Imams on the offensive

The Fons of the North West region of Cameroon and the council of Imams have pledged their support to fight the terrorism group Boko Haram, during separate audiences with the senate president in Yaounde.

In the first audience that was accorded this Thursday, October 30th 2014, by Senator Marcel Niat Njefenji to the North West Fons led by Fon Teche Njei, the fons pronounced their support to President Biya’s efforts to stamp out the terrorist sect Boko Haram.

Fon Teche Njei and his delegation of traditional rulers presented to the Senate President resolutions from the last session of the North West Chiefs Conference, condemning activities of Boko Haram in the country.

The second audience was granted to the Council of Imams in Cameroon under its President Moussa Oumarou still by Senate President Senator Niat Njefenji.

The Imams used the platform to overtly declare that the Council of Imams in Cameroon (CIDIMUC) is built on the virtues of peace and security not violence.

Moussa Oumarou also refuted allegations that the terrorist sect, Boko Haram is affiliated to the Islamic faith.

This meeting came at a time when Muslims in the country were having their third session of Council of Muslims in Cameroon.

At the end of the day, the two separate audiences granted by Senator Niat Njefenji were an occasion for the Fons and the Imams to review support to the Head of State in crushing Boko Haram and protecting the country from Ebola.
