On Wednesday 24th September 2014 one Boko Haram belligerent was shot dead by the Cameroon army in Fotokol, Far North of Cameroon.
The operative was killed during an exchange of gunshots between the group and the Cameroon Army, as they attempted to gain control of the Elbeid Bridge on the border between Cameroon and Nigeria.
It is important to note that, the Elbeid bridge connects the border towns of Gambaru in Nigeria and Fotokol in Cameroon, thus the area’s main trading route.
These daily exchanges between the army and the terrorist group has left the once buzzing city of Fotokol a ghost town as inhabitants stay in closed doors for fear of the unknown.
Correspondent reports state that businesses and schools are closed; even the customs office that collects revenue from this hitherto boisterous area now suffers a set back following the closure of borders.
The good news is, after the Presidential decree reinforcing the army’s presence and the change of Military Commanders, a number of victories have been registered by the army.
