Fighting Cancer: Specialists meet in Yaounde

Cancer control specialists have called for the creation of a centre in Yaounde to handle cancer cases and the creation of permanent cancer screening centres in the ten regions of Cameroon for the early detection of the disease for better control.

The specialists made the call this Wednesday, May 4, 2016, at the Yaounde Conference Centre at the start of the seventh edition of the Euro-African Congress on Cancer.

Opening the Congress, the Minister of Public Health, Andre Mama Fouda indicated that about 30 million persons suffer from cancer worldwide, with 14.000 new cases recorded in Cameroon each year.

The session has been placed under the theme, “Women and childhood cancer.”
