Inhabitants of Yaounde, particularly those working around the Ministry of Basic Education were spellbound, July 17, when a taxi, full with passengers caught fire at midday.
Before the fire that emerged from the bonnet could spread to the entire body of the car, the passengers and driver had already alighted, leaving it to burn at the middle of the junction next to the Ministry of Basic Education. Fire Brigade Fighters came later to the scene to extinguish the fire but the taxi had already burnt to an extent which eye witnesses considered is "beyond repairs".
The driver of the taxi, Garsa'm Meto said before the fire outbreak, there was an odour of petrol. As he struggled to park the car, he saw huge smoke coming out of the bonnet. Just like the passengers in the car, he rushed out without taking anything.
