Former DO decries kidney patients' death toll in Bamenda

The former divisional officer of Santa, Mbinglo Francis; a kidney patient of the Bamenda haemodialysis centre, has cried out over the complete damage of the machines of the centre due to the expiration of their lifespan.

Talking at the North West governor’s office last Tuesday November 12, during a protest staged by the 63 patients of the haemodialysis centre, the former DO disclosed that because of the breakdown of the machines, a total of 20 kidney patients died within 3 months at the centre.

Addressing the incensed patients who earlier in the morning of November 12, held Bamenda Finance junction hostage; blocking traffic, the North West regional delegate of public health, Ndiforchu Victor assured them that government had already listened to their plights, reason why brand new spare parts of the dialysis machines had been ordered from France.

Earlier in an exclusive interview with The Guardian Post, the director of the Bamenda regional hospital, Dr. Kinge Thompson Njie explained that the centre’s machines were installed since 2009 and have all attended their lifespan. “So the centre now needs new machines,” he stated.

He said the haemodialysis centre is a special gift president Paul Biya gave to the people of the North West and West regions, although people are admitted there from beyond the two regions, including others who come in from Europe and America for holidays.

As if to confirm what the former DO said, the publisher of Cameroon Post International newspaper, Sama Steve who was a kidney patient at the Bamenda haemodialysis centre died in the evening of Tuesday, November 12, when his colleagues were on protest.
