Former Minister Yunga Teghen buried

Thousands of mourners converged on Saturday January 30, at Njindom village in Momo division to bid former Deputy Minister of National Education, Yunga Teghen Joseph, who passed away Thursday January 8, after a brief illness farewell.

The funeral presided over by Bishop Agapitus Nfon at Njindom Catholic Church, was witnessed by personalities like North West governor, Lele L’afrique, Senators, Ministers, members of parliament, Mayors and other high profile dignitaries.

Bishop Agapitus called on all to take the demise of late Teghen as an opportunity to prepare for their own moment by reconciling with one another as all shall die one day. “We should look at our earthly life as a transition to a better home,” he advised.

The late teacher, educationist, diplomat, politician and church leader, Teghen Joseph was laid to rest after an official decoration from the representative of the Head of State, in the person of Governor Lele L’afrique. Teghen was decorated posthumously with a medal.

Speaking in his capacity as the representative of the Secretary General of the CPDM central committee and as Senator for Momo division, Fon Teche Njei painted a picture of Teghen as a kind, caring and ever forgiving person. Being one of the forerunners of politics particularly the CPDM in Momo, Teghen, according to Teche was that one person who could gather all the living forces of Momo division in one place. “That is why we can talk about him and are proud of him.

Born in Njindom village, the late Teghen held several posts of responsibility, including Director General of Administration in the Ministry of External Relations from 1988 to 1990. He was also a part-time lecturer of diplomatic practice in IRIC.

In 1990 President Biya appointed him Deputy Minister of National Education in charge of basic education and school health; a post he occupied till 2002 before his retirement in 2003.

Yunga Teghen leaves behind his wife, Elizabeth Yunga and three children.
