France to repatriate military equipment through Douala port-Official

The equipment and vehicles of the French peacekeeping operation “Sangaris” in Central African Republic (CAR) will soon be boarded into a ship chartered by the Cameroonian port of Douala, a statement issued Tuesday by the French embassy unveils.

Under an agreement binding the Cameroonian and French authorities, the logistics escorted by local gendarmerie is being transported by air from Bangui to Douala.

According to reliable sources, other convoys of equipment, including heavy vehicles and machinery will be transported by land to Cameroon’s commercial capital.

The gradual return of peace and stability in the CAR and the actual deployment of the UN-led multidimensional integrated mission in Central African Republic (MINUSCA), “has made possible the withdrawal of French forces serving under the operation.

Launched in December 2013, following an approval of the Resolution 2127 of the UN Security Council and upon the request of the then transition authorities in CAR, the French operation, has helped to protect civilian people targeted by sectarian violence from militias and to restore the conditions for sustainable peace.
