Fuel shortage hits the north

Fuel shortages in the northern part of Cameroon is getting serious particularly in the region of the far North, border with Nigeria and Chad. Motorists here are said to face enormous difficulties in getting supplies at petrol stations.

For three days now, inflation has been rampant in this part of the country, where a liter of super which is usually sold at 800 CFA francs against 650 CFA francs in the cities of Douala and Yaounde, is now going for 1500 CFA francs.

The delay in supply by the marketers has heightened the struggle by the Cameroonian authorities to fight against the fraudulent import of "adulterated fuel" from Nigeria and neighbouring Chad known as "zoua zoua".

Outside this region of the country, there have been no reports of any such shortages of fuel in the country.
