A good portion of Yaounde the Capital city has been in darkness for two days. No electricity and life almost on a standstill due.
The electricity failure was witnessed after the cable that transmits electricity to the Ngousso pylon was affected by fire.
The incident took place on Saturday evening after explosions from a gas depot in Etoudi; just one kilometre from the State House, caused total panic.
During the incident, the continuous explosions from the bottles containing gas brought fear as many inhabitants thought there were gun shots.
Thanks to the timely intervention of the 10th unite of the Fire fighting brigade led by Lt Col. Garka Garka, the situation was brought under control but not before close to three thousand bottles of gas had exploded.
Eye witness reports state that the accident came as a result of wrong manipulation of a gas bottle from this domestic gas depot which competent authorities affirmed was being operated clandestinely and in close proximity with houses.
Officially there are no victims but rumours hold it that eleven people are dead.
Area of the accident is presently in total ruins while the forces of law and order scout within and out of the premises to make sure everyone is safe.
The Gendarmerie legion commander Blaise Bonga, and the Police Superintendent of the 6th police district, Georges Asalakeya deserve a pat on the back for synergising their forces to master the situation.
In the meantime, the owner of the clandestine business is purportedly on the run while three suspects are currently under arrest.
