Gen. Assembly, int. inspectors discuss fraud in gov't

The Fifth General Assembly and third international colloquim inspectors general of African states was organised in Yaounde.

The meeting which started on the 10th September 2014, was attended by inspectors general and technical and financial partners. Amongst the main issues on discussion were ways of reducing fraud in state investments and the evolution of auditing and evaluation methods.

The Minister Delegate in Charge of Cameroon’s Supreme Audit Office, Henri Eyebe Ayissi, who opened the session reminded the civil society and state structures on the key role they play in fighting misappropriation of state resources.

Beatriz Fernandez, representative of the president of the association of Inspectors General of African States, also reiterated on the need of the civil society to support state structures.

Participants at the two-day seminar expressed different approaches in managing fraud in state investments in their respective countries.

According to Mauritania’s representative, the auditors opened up investigations on some issues that presented some sort of ambiguity.

Her counterpart from the Democratic Republic of Congo disclosed that in his home system, after the investigations and sanctions, recovered funds are sent back to the state, while the fines are equally shared between the government and officials who carried out the audit, as a form of motivation.
