German cooperation assess solar project in Yde

The initiative for the promotion of solar energy for the benefit of poor communes launched in 2012 by GIZ (German cooperation agency), was finally tested on Wednesday in Yaounde during a workshop of The German operation in synergy with other private institutions, under the patronage of the Ministry of water and energy.

A study on the State of the lighting in rural areas was conducted. 160 rural entrepreneurs were trained in the sale of small mobile photovoltaic equipment found in the field a population ready to acquire this type of equipment. Part of the promotion programme was, indeed, to produce and disseminate educational material on the comparative advantages of the solar lighting.

According to Andreas Kalk, the Director of the regional office of the GIZ, more than 50% of the population don't have access to the main network of electricity and rural areas particularly. In the same context, candles, generators, biological lamps fuel, alternative solutions are used by people outside the electrified parties.
