The visiting Vice President of the Federal Parliament of Germany (Bundestag), Johannes Singhammer says they want to open a new chapter in relations between Cameroon and Germany.
The new chapter concerns launching a new level of cooperation between the Parliaments of the two countries.
Johannes Singhammer spoke to reporters yesterday, June 16, 2014 in Yaounde after discussions with the President of Cameroon's Senate, Marcel Niat Njifenji. Speaking through an interpreter, he said that after their discussions, they came to the conclusion that the Senate which is the Second Chamber in Cameroon has a role just as important as that of the Bundestag which is the Second Chamber in Germany. He stated that no important political decision can be made without the agreement of the Second Chamber.
As to the new level of cooperation, Johannes Singhammer said they envisage sharing their long and rich parliamentary experiences with the Cameroon Senate. He revealed that the key mission of the German Bundestag is to vote laws, control government action, adopt the Federal Budget and vote the German Chancellor.
In all, it is within the German Bundestag that diverse points of view on the political life of the country are formulated and debated, he said.
