Prime Minister Philemon Yang presides over the National Tourism Board which had a meeting where experts highlighted the importance of communication in the development of the industry in the country.
Given government's plans to promote internal tourism, the experts proposed that tourism culture be built in Cameroonians as early as possible especially through the introduction of programmes on tourism in schools.
They also propose the building of public/ private partnerships in order to attain the target of six hundred thousand tourists by 2015. According to official statistics, about a million tourists visit Cameroon each year because of the country’s divergent touristic potential.
Due to the importance of the sector, the government of Cameroon has undertaken to improve on the system and attract an estimated number of 2 million Foreign tourists into the country by 2020.
Amongst important measures put in place are the development of access roads and new tourist sites, promoting ecotourism around the mount Cameroon area as well as leisure and cultural activities.
Given the current security situation in one of the country's key tourist destinations, the Far north Region, government is now suggesting that tourists turn to the other regions where there are unique landscapes and ecosystems.
