Governor Commissions New Nigerian Consul General

His Excellency Musa Mallam Hassan is in charge of the Littoral and West Regions of Cameroon.

The Governor of the Littoral Region, Joseph Beti Assomo yesterday June 18 officially installed the new Nigerian Consul General in Douala. In a solemn ceremony that held at the Banquet Hall of his office premises, His Excellency Musa Mallam Hassan was presented to his new collaborators. Charged with rendering consular services to the Littoral and West Region, his overall task is to foster the already existing cooperation between Cameroon and Nigeria.

In a keynote address, Joseph Beti Assomo explained that the new Consul General's letter of Commission was signed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs for the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency Olugbenga Ayodeji Ashuri on May 17, 2012. Upon its presentation to Cameroon, the Head of State, President Paul Biya in an exequatur signed November 12, 2012; officially authorised him to exercise his functions.

It is incumbent on His Excellency Musa Mallam Hassan to ensure the smooth integration of Nigerians based in Cameroon, on transit, visiting, or other matters linked to his office. Thus, he will uphold the friendly ties between Cameroon and Nigeria, which countries share historic, geographic, economic and socio-cultural relations. He was equally warned against using his office for personal deeds rather than represent the community for which he is responsible. The ceremony was crowned by a handing over of the exequatur by the Governor, followed by a symbolic handshake with the administrative, municipal, religious and traditional authorities alongside diplomatic dignitaries who responded present.
