Hevecam employees arrested over the weekend

The workers, who have been on strike for over ten days, were taken to the company of gendarmerie and the territorial Brigade of Kribi following clashes with the security forces.

Several workers of Hevecam Cameroon based in Niete, near Kribi were arrested and taken to the company of gendarmerie and the territorial Brigade in Kribi, last Friday.

This came after the radicalisation of the movement to strike observed by the latter requiring payment without delay of their 13th month's salary.

At Village 2 where anger is much more noticeable, the factory facilities were prevented from being ransacked following the intervention of the forces of order and the prefect of the Department. According to sources, a gendarme was wounded during the clashes which led to the mass arrest of the workers.

Despite all these events, Executive Director of the company Hevecam SA, Rajasegar R. S remained adamant. The latter paid only 50% of this bonus, violating according to the workers, the terms of collective agreements that bind the two sides.

The striking workers relied on this 13th month's salary to spend the end of year holidays.
