Alice Sadio, Secretary General of Alliance of Progressive Forces, APF party, speaks on the on-going electioneering in the country.
What does your role consist of in the on-going campaign?
I am coordinating campaigns as they progress. I could have been a candidate but I am sure that the APF is happy that I am free enough in order to be in touch with our campaign teams in the Galim, Mbengwi and Douala IV Councils where we are running for the municipal election. I have been travelling; first of all before the election to ensure that our party nominates credible candidates.
Now we are fully in the campaign and I get in touch with all our teams on the field. Also as the Head of the Communication Department, I coordinate our campaign programmes at the Cameroon Radio Television, CRTV. I call candidates from the different council areas to come, drill them and we go together to CRTV where they present the party's campaign manifesto and programme. The council list leader for Douala IV has already participated in the programme and I am expecting the head our council list in Mbengwi. I can and encourage officials on the field every day. I have also just received public funds our campaign which have been sent to the field.
What about campaign rallies?
These are local elections are we prefer the door-to-door strategy. This strategy is even more appropriate for the nature of the elections. However, it is tomorrow, Thursday, September 19 that I will really be on the field. This is because we will start organising rallies from Friday. We will start in Douala, move to the West and finish in Mbengwi in the North West.
