Dieudonné Massi Gams, president of the National Anti-Corruption Commission (Conac), revealed his salary to the media this Monday, June 27, 2016.
The president of the Conac, – the body in charge of the fight against corruption in the country-, earns a monthly salary of FCFA 7 million.
“My salary is FCFA seven (7) million per month to help me not be corrupted” said on Monday in Yaounde Dieudonné Massi Gams, president of the Conac, who is also a pastor.
The salary of pastor Dieudonné Massi Gams, is 193 times higher than the guaranteed minimum wage, which is set at FCFA 36,270 since July 2014 in Cameroon. A privilege or an injustice in a country where the applicable average wage is between FCFA 80 and 100 thousand.
In addition to salary, the Rev. Dieudonné Massi Gams, has huge benefits, which were not disclosed to the press. Nothing to envy some ministers who officially earn less than FCFA 800 000 per month, but the bribes exceed the limits of the imaginable.
A close associate of the President of Conac, who strongly requested anonymity, said that the benefits of the function of President of the Conac are staggering/huge/skyrocketing.
The State shall take into account, phone expenses, housing allowance, several vehicles for children and wife, fuel costs, “the servants and guards of the President of the Conac are also supported by the public Treasury, even the drivers, “says our source.
However, despite these advantages granted by the State to the Conac, corruption is not declining in the country. Some agents of the Conac, including its leader, are regularly quoted in the local press, on charges of corruption and fraud.
