ICTR Registrar holds dicussions with PM

The Registrar of the International Tribunal for Rwanda, Bongani Majola who is also UN Under-Secretary General, has commended the Cameroon government for its assistance in the International Criminal Tribunal in Arusha.

During an audience with the Prime Minister and Head of Government Yang Philemon, Mr Bongani thanked the Cameroon government for being one of the countries that opened its doors to the tribunal in its early days.

It should be noted that the Rwandan Tribunal in Tanzania has been judging suspects of the April 1994 Rwandan Genocide that ensued during the conflict between theTutsi minority and the Hutus.

During the audience, Mr. Bongani invited the government of Cameroon to the 20th anniversary celebration of the tribunal to take place on the 8th November 2014.

The UN Under-Secretary General stated that the tribunal will be closed in mid 2015 when the last case would have been handled.
