Imminent low-key burial of CPDM youth president

Preparations for the interment of the deceased National Youth President of the CPDM Stephen Mbonda Motia have remained halfhearted despite confirmation that he would be buried today Saturday, October 11.

Two days to the funeral ceremony proper, the entire Meme population is at a loss as to what ambiance could possibly characterise Mbonda’s funeral. Except for radio announcements that have been aired, the atmosphere speaks volumes of an event that may cause the people of Meme to see President Biya and the CPDM in bad light.

Shockingly, it was the aged father of the deceased who was spotted running from one radio station to another to give the funeral program of his son while many of the political friends the Youth President made during his reign were practically nowhere to be found.

Even among militants of the CPDM party, little has so far been done by way of mobilisation and preparation to ensure that, the burial befits that of a National Youth President of a party in power.

Cynthia Itoe, a Youth Wing member of the deceased lamented that, not even posters, or banners have been printed to animate the national scene of the passing into glory of their President. Itoe was unhappy that even the CPDM propaganda media organ did not as much as announce the death of the party’s youth leader.

Others who refused to be named doubt if the attention given to other big wigs of the CPDM who have passed on such as Ateba Eyene would happen in the case of Mbonda.

At other levels, The Post learnt that, a recent meeting chaired by Youth and civic Education Minister Ishmael Bidoung Mpatt in Yaounde geared towards giving Mbonda a befitting burial ended with no concrete proposals.

The source explained that, the Minister was forced to reduce the level of preparation going by information that the CPDM Central Committee had not validated the funeral program of the fallen leader.

In addition, the date for the burial ceremony on a weekend when the on going 60th Conference of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association will be rounding off in Yaounde is still casting doubts over the level of high profile personalities that are likely to be present at the funeral.

CDC, PAMOL To Repair Roads? As part of the preparations for the event, The Post learnt that, the Cameroon Development Corporation, CDC, and Pamol Plantations Limited, PPL, have been tasked by the CPDM Central Committee to ensure that roads leading to the Bai Sombe village of Mbonda are passable.

The decision, a source told The Post, was necessitated given that; the two corporations use the roads most.

The father of the deceased is quoted as telling reporters that as at Monday, October 6, nothing substantial had been done on the road but for some persons whom he spotted marking the tracks of the roads.

Meanwhile, information of supposed reconstruction works in the village of the late Youth President of Biya’s party is said to be a scam. Recently, a native of the area told The Post that nothing has been done whether in Bai Sombe or Bai Koke where the father of the deceased has compounds.
