Chief judicial magistrate Dilip Ragit on Tuesday held a Cameroon national, Eric David Notendo, guilty for violation of The Foreigner’s Act, 1946 and The Passport Act, 1967 slapping him with imprisonment upto one year and fine 6,000. Eric was arrested in September last year by Ambazari police.

Eric, posing as a representative of a global brand automobile company, had tried to dupe 64-year-old Prakash Bagde on the pretext of handing him a cash reward of 5 lakh pound as a lucky winner for the purpose of promotion last year.

Bagde was earlier asked to deposit 90,500 in an account for completing various formalities. He was later summoned at a hotel to receive the cash prize as Eric came to hand him over the reward. Bagde was handed over a bag which was told to be having five lakh pound. Upon checking, Bagde found the bag having only pieces of papers instead of currencies. Sensing foul play, Bagde informed police who had nabbed Eric.

Eric was awarded one-year imprisonment and fine of 3,000 by the CJM for violation of The Foreigner’s Act and similar quantum of punishment for flouting the norms of The passport Act.
