Irina Bokova: Doctor Honoris Causa

The Director General of UNESCO, Irina Bokova has been conferred an Honorary Doctorate at the Higher Teacher’s Training College ENS University of Yaounde 1.

During her brief stop at the Higher Teacher’s Training College ENS, the UNESCO boss- Irina Bokova was conferred the distinction in the presence of Government ministers, members of the Diplomatic Corps, University dons and the student community.

The honorary certificate was handed by the Minister of Higher Education and Chancellor of Academic orders Professor Jacques Fame Ndongo while the Doctorial robe was handed by the Rector of the University of Yaounde 1, Professor Maurice Aurelien Sosso.

Madame Bokova was receiving the distinction for the 20th time over a five-year period. She is the first female to be conferred the honorary title by the University of Yaounde 1.

The distinction was bestowed on her because of her relentless efforts in advancing quality education and gender parity in Cameroon and the world at large.

As head of UNESCO, her focus is to persuade governments and institutions embrace the principles of quality education, gender equality, cultural dialogue and scientific cooperation for sustainable development.
