Italy offers FCFA 327 million to support war against Boko Haram

The Italian government has donated an aid package worth 327 million FCFA to assist the over 12,000 internally displaced persons of the Far North Region affected by Boko Haram terrorism acts.

The donation was done by the Italian ambassador, Samuela Isopi, to Government officials and members of the UN System and Humanitarian civil societies.

While handing the aid, Madame Isopi hoped that many people in the Region will benefit from the donation which include: blankets, mosquito nets, and non-food items.

She saluted the Cameroon government and the international refugee organization for their efforts in supporting the refugees.

The UN System Humanitarian coordinator, Nadash Roshdi, reiterated the UN’s resolve to improve the standard of living of the refugees while calling on other governments to follow the example.

Apart from the aid package, the Italian Government will begin a session to improve the capacities of officials of the Police and the Gendarmerie corps on issues of terrorism.

The session will be organized at a training program to begin next month in Italy.
