Konye youth celebrate in pomp, enthusiasm

Hundreds marched past with placards in support the Head of State's fight against terrorism.

The 49th edition of the National Youth Day was celebrated in Konye Subdivision, Meme Division of the South West Region on Wednesday, February 11, 2015, with a lot of pomp and enthusiasm.

The day, which was celebrated on the theme, “Youths and the preservation of peace for an emergent Cameroon," saw hundreds of youths displaying placards in support of President’s Paul Biya’s tireless fight against the Islamic Boko Haram sect in the northern part of the country.

The ceremony, which was presided by the Divisional Officer for Konye Subdivision, Mbotiji Houtison Babila, saw hundreds of kids, pupils, students and youth groups march past at the Municipal Grandstand for over two hours.

The Divisional Officer used the occasion to congratulate chairpersons of various committees that helped in mobilising people for the event, saying they did a good job. He also used the event to call on youths to always give their support to the Head of State as he continues the relentless war against Boko Haram.

The DO also reminded them of the Head of State's message on the eve, assuring that he knows the plight of youths and has promised to make sure that their worries are taken care of. He said while waiting for the creation of over 350,000 jobs this year as announced by the President, they should look for something doing to take care of their families.

The day was characterised by activities such as choral singing, traditional dances and a football match between the pupils of Government School, Konye and Government School, Dikomi, which was won by GS Konye by 1-0.

The day also saw the award of prizes to hardworking pupils and students. It is worth mentioning that youths of various legalized political parties in Konye Subdivision did not take part in the march past for unknown reasons.
