The Mayor of the Kumba I Sub-divisional Council, Abel Ebako Ndoh on behalf of the Council has donated some items worth CFA 5.5million to the Kunba I sub-divisional hospital, CMA and the Kumba Central Prison; in order to improve on the management of these institutions.
He carried out this humanitarian exercise recently together with the Divisional Officer, D.O of Kumba I Nformubot Duala Charles together with other important personalities of Kumba I during a visit to these institutions.
Gifts such as beds, mattress, flat screen televisions, tables, chairs, and benches worth CFA 3.5million were donated to the Kumba I Sub-divisional Hospital, CMA to assist the patients, while items worth CFA 2million such as benches, sewing machine, threats, chalk, pens, correcting fluid, table, chairs, boards, plywoods, and sewing materials were donated to the Kumba Central Prison to help educate the inmates.
According to the Mayor of Kumba I, Ebako Abel Ndoh, the council received requests for assistance from these and other institution but due to the limited resources at the council’s disposal, only the above institutions finally benefited. adding that since those items requested by the two institutions were up to the council’s capacity, they thought it wise to answer the cry of these institutions.
Mayor Ebako said that if the items are used judiciously, they will go a long way to alleviate the condition of the patients and workers in the hospital as well as management and inmates of the prison.
He said that the didactic materials given to the Kumba Central Prison will equally enhance the learning process of the inmates so that when they are released from the prison they will be able to communicate and relate well with their friends and family members outside.
The Assistant Superintendent in charge of principal prison Kumba, Latala David thanked the Mayor for his kind gesture, adding that this act shows that the inmates have not been abandoned. He said the gifts will go a long way to educate the inmates so that they can learn a trade that will help them reintegrate into the society when they are released.
Latala’s words of appreciation were corroborated by the Kumba District Medical Officer, Dr. Mbamulu Nkiemotoh Achu and the Director of the Kumba I Sub-divisional Hospital who equally thanked the Mayor for his kind gesture and said the items will go a long way to increase the standard of the hospital.
The D.O of Kumba I, Nformubot Duala Charles on his part thanked the inmates for the welcome they gave him upon his arrival and also lauded the Mayor for the donation. He called on the inmates to examine their lives so that when they are released from the prison they will be better citizens.
