The director of the Kumba district hospital, Dr Zacks Ebongo who doubles as head of the ophthalmology unit has called on Doctors and nurses of the hospital to practice what he calls post-paid services in order to avoid the Monique Koumate-like incident which occurred at the Douala Laquintinie hospital recently.

He was speaking on Wednesday March 16,2016, at the conference hall of the hospital while receiving New Year wishes from staff of the hospital. He said no one should be deprived of their right to life because they cannot pay hospital bills immediately.

He urged doctors of the hospital to be ready to go to the theatre whenever need be and even when the patients do not have the money to immediately pay for their services. “The hospital administration will know how to collect its debts after the person must have been treated,” Dr. Ebongo said, calling on his colleagues not to relent in their efforts in providing the best medical care to patients who avail themselves at the hospital.

He used the occasion to announce the presence at the hospital of a neuropsychiatrist to take care of mental cases.

Speaking earlier, the medical adviser of the hospital Dr. Etienne Asongayi explained that the event was organized by the staff of the hospital in recognition of the efforts of the director in making the hospital one of the best medical outfits in the country.

Some of the achievements of the Director include creating a master plan, installing an electronic sign board, improving security, instituting visiting hours, improving hygiene and sanitation, providing water, creating modern parking lots, instituting an electronic receipt system for the pharmacy, creating an isolation unit, purchasing two stand by generators, constructing a modern emergency unit, ensuring punctuality of staff, rehabilitating the laboratory and the wards, instituting the use of badges by staff among others.
